A Rock Among Play-DohA Rock Among Play-Doh

Play-Doh is one of the coolest toys ever invented. The concept is simple: a soft squeezable substance that can mold into anything you want. Kids can make Play-Doh food, Play-Doh cars, Play-Doh animals, etc. You name it and someone has probably made it out of Play-Doh. The only problem is that it's too soft to hold its form over time. You can mold a tree of Play-Doh today and tomorrow use the same Play-Doh to make a salad.

I've known some people in my life that reminded me of Play-Doh. They are easily agreeable and always willing to adopt new ideas. Then a day later they have moved on to a new idea. I've also known some Christians that have this characteristic. When they go to church they are molded into the perfect Christian, saying all the perfect things and making all the perfect moves. Then the next day comes and the world molds them into a completely different person. Their faith is swayed and their morals are easily compromised.

The Bible encourages us to grow past this behavior and strive for boldness and consistency.

Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. (Ephesians 4:14-15)

It's not easy being a rock in a Play-Doh world, but that is exactly what we are called to be. Christ held firm to His teachings when every pressure of the world was on Him to change and He calls us to follow His example of courage and truth.

The Bible encourages us to strive for boldness and consistency.
