Whose Life Is It?
by Russ Lawson
My sister, Janet, shared this story about her grandson, 4-year-old Mason. It seems that he was staying with them the other night and when it came time to go to bed he wasn't sleepy. She lay down with him, but he kept tossing and turning and talking to her. At one point he told her, "Grandma, when I was a baby my mommy put me in a basket and put me in the river." Obviously, Mason has gotten his life confused with the story of the baby Moses. In a way, that's a neat thing isn't it? The apostle Paul says at one point in the scripture, "I no longer live, but Christ lives in me." (Galatians 2:20) In another place, Paul insists that we should "have the mind of Christ." (Philippians 2:5) Wouldn't the best thing be for us to live in such a way that we can't tell where we end and Christ begins in our lives to be so intermingled with Christ that we could never be separated. Isn't this how it is supposed to be? Matthew records a short incident in the life of Christ involving his disciples and children. Notice what he says! About that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Which of us is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?" Jesus called a small child over to him and put the child among them. Then he said, "I assure you, unless you turn from your sins and become as little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven." (Matthew 18:1-3)
Mason may not have been put in a basket and put in the river, but he knows the story of how God saved Moses. Do you know how he saved you? Something to think about isn't it?
